Scotty McCreery had a successful year in 2017: his smash hit ‘Five More Minutes’ was released and reached No. 1, news about his new album was announced, he made an unforgettable Opry debut, and he proposed to his long-time girlfriend Gabi Dugal. However, 2018 seems to shaping up to be just as successful for the 24-year-old. McCreery returns early this year with the release of his newest single, ‘This Is It,’ from his recently released album, ’em>Seasons Change/em>.
The single is a classic Scotty song from the sound with his southern draw to the songwriting. The song was written by McCreery, Frank Rogers, and Aaron Eshuis and appears on his new album, ’em>Seasons Change,’ which was released on March 16th. ‘This Is It,’ a song written by Scotty McCreery, depicts his and his girlfriend’s journey during his proposal to her. It tells the story from his point of view and serves as a reflection of that particular moment.
The song begins with the image of him being up 4,000 miles in the Carolina mountains, surprising his girlfriend with this hike up the mountain. The final destination was when she could open her eyes and take it all in, thinking, “This is it.” As the song progresses, the second verse expresses how he knows his girlfriend has been anticipating this moment and discussing it with her friends about when it will happen and why it hasn’t yet. But what she doesn’t realize is that he has been waiting as well, clutching the ring for the right moment and the right words to say.
The lyrics are painfully cute and perfectly depict their love for each other. The chorus is all about how this is the moment they’ve been waiting for and talking about for a long time. McCreery shows his fans the rawness of his proposal in the middle of the chorus with the lyrics em>”take my hand, take it in.” We will never forget this moment, standing on top of the world, together.”
For some context, Scotty proposed to Gabi in September 2017 on the summit of a beautiful mountain in North Carolina. She was mistaken when she thought the view would be her “this is it” moment. Scotty had finally proposed to her!
The song’s final verse is a foreshadowing of what is to come. Scotty sings about his future wife walking down the aisle on their wedding day, and how he can’t help but think “this is it.”/em>
If you’re a fan of lovebird country music and haven’t heard this song yet, you should do so right away. It will make your heart ache with love in the most wonderful way. Even if you’re not into the lovey-dovey stuff, you should give it a listen because this is still great artistry on McCreery’s part. If this is a preview of his new album, we’re excited to see what else he has in store.
